Established in 1963, the Napa Valley Wine Library Association is devoted to sharing and preserving information about viticulture, enology, and wine lore, particularly concerning the Napa Valley. Its extensive collection of books, magazines, interviews clippings, and other materials is housed at the St. Helena Public Library. While most of this material can and does circulate, older and unique items are available for reference only in the library's rare book room. Behind the library is "Barney's Backyard," a tiny heritage vineyard maintained by the association and named for its first president, Bernard Rhodes.

The association sponsors an annual tasting for members. Typically a single varietal is featured, with over one hundred Napa Valley wineries offering their finest in the Grove at Silverado Country Club.

Members may also attend a seminar the day before the annual tasting and one or more one-day field seminars in spring or fall. Such classes date back to the inception of the organization, and are taught by legends, leaders, and newcomers within the agricultural and winemaking community.

The association's journal, the REPORT, issues several times each year and contains interviews, articles, book reviews, and other items of interest concerning the association and the industry.

.

Check out the membership events page for information on all the Napa Valley Wine Library events.

Annual dues are $60; life memberships are $1000. The cost for members who join or renew at the door at the annual tasting is $70.
